When saving and exporting large datasets out of SRS (version 7) one will encounter serious problems:
Saving as "Generic XML format" will stop after 10 minutes. If your export file is large, this option will not work. We have not been able to fix this problem;
When saving as "ASCII text/table" one will loose headers and worse, in a 1:n situation, data will be saved with errors causing problems for spreadsheet programs such as Excel;
There is no option to average data points. For example, if for one single gene multiple spots or probeset IDs are saved (an 1:n situation), one would like to have the option to average these data into a single value.
In order to fix some of these problems, we have devised SRS output converters:
1) SRS XML 2 Text Converter
With this tool you can load any generic SRS XML output file and convert into one of the given output formats to import this into Microsoft Excel. The software has various options concerning 1:n relationships between databases, so that "double" values can be compressed to one number only which represents for instance the average, highest or lowest value of the values in the original XML file.
